The Gates at Central Park

In 2005 I was flipping through USA Today early one morning while traveling and came across an article about a project by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. It seems that in 1979 Christo began drawing images of bright orange fabric panels hanging from frames all through Central Park.

As I read the article, the exhibit was just being revealed. This meant I had little time to experience it for myself. That same day I booked a flight that would take me to New York City for the first time.

Landing before 8:00 a.m. on a freezing February morning, I lugged my Nikon D70 and gear into a yellow cab. When asked where I wanted to be taken, I naively said, “Central Park.”

I’ll share more of this one-day adventure through the lens of my camera and some adjoining prose.
